A little about the story
On the fifth of June 1857, the Padgett family sets off in a carriage and a moving-wagon from Ohio, heading west across Indiana. The children, their aunt and Zene the hired man meet a little old man with a bag on his back, stay at taverns and explore an old house with a secret cellar.
Mary Hartwell Catherwood captures the slow, eventful travel of pioneer days in a gentle adventure for children.
