A little about the story
Duchess Joan of Hohenstein rules a cluster of small mountain states in Germany, and she can handle a sword as well as any of her soldiers. When she is promised in marriage to a prince she has never met, she decides to take matters into her own hands.
What follows is a swashbuckling romance of castles, embassies, battles and mistaken identities. S. R. Crockett writes with dash and humour, and Joan is a bold and memorable heroine.
