A little about the story
John Verney arrives at Harrow School on a strange new morning, among five hundred faces. He longs for the friendship of the brilliant, charming Desmond, but the cynical Scaife has his eye on Desmond too, and the rivalry between them runs through John's school days.
Horace Annesley Vachell, himself an Old Harrovian, writes about school life, friendship and loyalty with deep feeling. It was a bestseller, and remains one of the classic English school novels.
