A little about the story
Lieutenant Stan Wilson and his Irish wingman O'Malley are flying fighter escort for the big bombers heading deep into Germany. A scouting mission over hidden airfields goes wrong, and Stan ends up a prisoner behind enemy lines.
What follows is a fast run of escape, spies and narrow scrapes, ending with the new Mustang fighters and a final spy hunt back at base. Written while the war was still being fought, it captures the excitement and the dangers of the air war over Europe as it seemed to young readers in 1944.
