Transcriber’s Note

Words may have multiple spelling variations or inconsistent hyphenation. Obsolete and archaic spelling was not changed. Nine misspelled words were corrected.

Footnotes were renumbered sequentially and were moved to the end of the chapter. Missing and excess punctuation was corrected. Duplicate letters at line endings were removed; unprinted letters were added. Words duplicated over line breaks were deleted.
