A little about the book

Sir Robert Ball, one of the most famous astronomers of his day, gave Christmas lectures to young people at the Royal Institution in London. This book grew out of them: friendly talks about the sun, the moon, the planets, comets, shooting stars and the distant stars.

He explains how astronomers measured the distance to the sun and how the heavens move, with simple experiments and plenty of wonder. Some of the science has moved on, but the enthusiasm hasn't dated.
