A little about the story
In the title story, two lazy boys learn from a wise old owl that they could be brownies, the helpful little people who do the housework while everyone sleeps. Other tales in the collection include a Christmas story and stories about children, animals and families.
Juliana Horatia Ewing was one of the finest Victorian writers for children, and The Brownies gave its name to the junior branch of the Girl Guides.
