A little about the story
A first reader about animals for young children: cats and dogs, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and other friends, with true stories, simple facts and plenty of nursery rhymes, like Hey Diddle Diddle and The Little Piggie Wig.
James Johonnot wrote it as a schoolbook, believing that children learn best through pets, stories and fun. It is a charming old-fashioned primer.
