A little about the story

The children of America's migrant farm workers travel with their families from harvest to harvest, picking fruit and vegetables across the country. This book tells their stories, and the stories of the church centres that cared for them while their parents worked.

Florence Crannell Means, a Newbery Honor author, wrote it to help children understand lives very different from their own.
