A little about the story

Old Oliver keeps a small shop in a poor London street, and his only joy is his little granddaughter Dolly. When a ragged boy called Tony, who sweeps a crossing for pennies, becomes part of their lives, the three of them face poverty, illness and the hardships of the Victorian city together.

Hesba Stretton wrote some of the most popular and moving stories about London's poor children, and this short novel is full of tenderness and compassion.
