A little about the story
A terrible explosion at the manor house of Amesbury leaves young Grisell badly scarred, and people begin to call her Grisly Grisell. She is married as a child to a young lord who wants nothing to do with her, as the Wars of the Roses tear England apart.
Charlotte M. Yonge, one of the great Victorian novelists, tells a moving story about a girl who learns to find her own worth and courage.
