A little about the book
Volume four of Sir Edward Parrott's account of the First World War for young readers covers the year 1915, a year of life-and-death struggle in which Italy and Bulgaria joined the fighting. It includes the second battle of Ypres, the first poison gas attacks and the Canadians' heroic stand.
Written as the war was happening, it is a fascinating historical document, showing how the war was explained to British children at the time.
